Prevalence of Insulin Resistance, Dyslipidemia and Metabolic Syndrome in Infertile Women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Introduction: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects 5-10% of reproductive age women and it is a common cause infertility in young women. Most the infertile with PCOS are overweight or obese related risks insulin resistance, dyslipidemia metabolic syndrome. There ethnic variation prevalence obesity its abnormalities polycystic This study was designed to explore Bangladesh. Methods: cross sectional 126 attending Infertility unit Department Obstertrics Gynaecology at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University from January 2017 December 2017. Results: The mean BMI 26.58±3.18 waist circumference 91.07±9.5 cm. Regarding obesity, 47.6% were (BMI 23 - 27.5 kg/m2), 39.7% (BMI>27.5 kg/m2) central (waist ≥80 cm) 80.2%. In PCOS, resistance 27.8% , 93.7% 42.9% .Median fasting higher than cut off for specific south Asian population. Insulin measured by hyperinsulinemia much more frequent (65.9%) that HOMA-IR (27.8%).The most lipid abnormality low HDL cholesterol (90.5%) followed elevated LDL-cholesterol (79.4%). Low abdominal (80.2%) criteria increasing trend age. Conclusion: Screening important because allows additional counseling about long term health consequences emphasis on weight management.
